about the awards
The 2026 Timepiece World Awards were created to recognize exceptional achievement globally in timepiece design and innovation in the Horology Industry. The awards recognize timepiece design achievement in 11 different categories and an additional people's choice category and Jurors Choice for the finalists of all the categories.  The finalist grouping of each category and winning selection of each finalist group are determined by a confidential vote of the selected Timepiece World award 2026 committee members and jurors.  The 2026 list of award-winners will be announced at the 2nd annual Timepiece World awards ceremony that will take place on Saturday, September 26th, 2026 in Toronto, Canada.

1.10.01 — Time Only: This category is reserved for timepieces that embody the pure and fundamental expression of time through an analogue display.Eligible entries must display hours and minutes, with an optional central or subsidiary seconds indication. No additional calendar, timing, or mechanical complications may be present.This category is intended to recognize excellence in the design, proportion, finishing, and execution of essential timekeeping, allowing the purity of the watch’s form and mechanical expression to remain the central focus.

1.10.02 — Chronograph:
This category is dedicated to mechanical timepieces incorporating an integrated chronograph function designed for the measurement of elapsed time.Eligible entries may include sub-dials, auxiliary displays, or secondary complications, provided that the chronograph remains a primary and defining feature of the timepiece.Assessment within this category shall place particular emphasis on mechanical sophistication, legibility, usability, and overall design integration of the timing function.

1.10.03 — GMT / World Time:
This category applies to mechanical timepieces capable of displaying time across multiple geographic regions through dedicated movement-based functionality.Eligible entries must provide an independent, clearly indicated secondary time zone display, or the ability to display multiple time zones simultaneously.Timepieces relying solely on external bezel-based indications without corresponding movement-based display functionality shall not be eligible for this category.Particular consideration shall be given to the clarity, practicality, and ingenuity of the multi-time-zone execution.

1.10.04 — Tool & Performance Watches:
This category is reserved for purpose-built timepieces engineered for active, professional, or highly demanding environments.Eligible entries shall include watches designed for sport, exploration, professional field use, or specialized technical applications, where durability, legibility, ergonomic comfort, and functional dependability are essential design considerations.Timepieces in this category may be intended for use in disciplines including, but not limited to:athletic and endurance performancediving and maritime applicationsaviation and navigationemergency and rescue servicesexploration and expedition usemedical or clinical environmentsmilitary and law-enforcement operationsIn all cases, the design, materials, and technical features must demonstrate a clear and credible connection to real-world utility and performance requirements, rather than purely lifestyle-oriented styling.Pursuant to Section 1.8, quartz and other battery-powered movements are expressly permitted within this category.

1.10.05 — Innovative Complication:
This category recognizes timepieces distinguished by original mechanical thinking and exceptional horological innovation.Eligible entries may include advances in movement architecture, complication design, power transmission, acoustic functions, escapement systems, or novel methods of displaying and measuring time.This category is intended to celebrate both the reinterpretation of traditional watchmaking principles and the introduction of entirely new horological concepts, where innovation forms a central component of the watch’s identity.

1.10.06 — Exceptional Materials:
This category is dedicated to timepieces that advance the art of watchmaking through the innovative, unconventional, or technically distinguished use of materials.Eligible entries may include novel alloys, composites, ceramics, carbon-based materials, proprietary metals, or pioneering material treatments and surface finishes.Evaluation shall consider how the selected materials contribute to performance, durability, aesthetics, wearability, and originality.

1.10.07 — Jewellery & Artistic Craft: 
This category recognizes timepieces that demonstrate exceptional artistic craftsmanship and decorative mastery.Eligible entries may incorporate high jewellery techniques, gemstone setting, enamelling, engraving, guilloché, skeletonization, lacquering, marquetry, hand-painting, or other artisanal decorative disciplines.Judging shall focus on the artistic execution, technical skill, originality, and aesthetic harmony of the timepiece as a complete work of horological art.

1.10.08 — Foundation: 
This category is reserved for timepieces positioned within an accessible luxury price segment, with a recommended retail price of USD $2,500 or below, or the equivalent in local currency.This category is intended to recognize outstanding value, design excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship within entry-level and emerging luxury watchmaking.Special consideration may be given to brands and models that demonstrate exceptional quality and creative distinction at an accessible price point.

1.10.09 — Exception: 
This category is designated for timepieces with a recommended retail price between USD $2,501 and USD $15,000, or the equivalent in local currency.This category recognizes excellence within the mid-to-upper luxury segment, with particular emphasis on refined design, mechanical competence, finishing quality, and the strength of the brand’s creative identity.Entries should demonstrate a compelling balance of craftsmanship, technical execution, and market positioning within this price range.

1.10.10 — Ascension:
This category is reserved for timepieces with a recommended retail price between USD $15,001 and USD $59,999, or the equivalent in local currency.This classification is intended to recognize watches that represent a significant progression into the realm of high horology, distinguished by elevated craftsmanship, advanced technical sophistication, and a distinctive design language.Particular consideration shall be given to entries that reflect brand-defining ambition, innovation, and a clear advancement in watchmaking artistry and mechanical complexity.

1.10.11 — Pinnacle:
This category is reserved for timepieces with a recommended retail price of USD $60,000 and above, or the equivalent in local currency.This category represents the highest echelon of watchmaking excellence, recognizing timepieces that embody exceptional mastery, rarity, exclusivity, and visionary execution.Eligible entries should demonstrate the summit of horological craftsmanship through technical innovation, finishing, artistry, complication, material excellence, and overall creative vision.This category is intended to celebrate the most distinguished expressions of contemporary watchmaking at the highest level of the craft.
